Ph.D. student, Rafael Bravo defended his doctoral thesis entitled HYDRAULIC-PNEUMATIC SYSTEM OF REGENERATIVE BRAKING AND HYBRIDIZATION OF COMMERCIAL VEHICLES, which took place in Florianópolis, SC, on February 24, 2017, in the Auditorium of Mechanical Engineering Department of UFSC. The author presented the characteristics of the new concept of hybrid vehicle and the driving conditions in which it is possible to accomplish the recovery of energy. Besides the knowledge of the hydraulic and pneumatic areas, the integration with other areas, such as mechanics, thermodynamics, instrumentation and process control was essential for the development of a detailed mathematical model, required to represent the behavior and performance of the system under different traffic conditions. The research project had a partnership with the company VOLVO of Curitiba. An experimental unit was built for obtaining the preliminary results. The project was an important opportunity for the development of a research line related to the subject, hybrid machines.
