On February 27nd in Florianópolis-SC, the Mechanical Production Engineer Vinícius Vígolo presented his master’s thesis titled “Theoretical-Experimental Study to aid the design of pneumatic actuation systems”, focused on the dynamic and energy efficiency of pneumatic actuation systems. During the research, a model for dynamic simulation of the directional valve and cylinder was developed, which demonstrated the existence of an optimum range of cylinder diameters, resulting in an excellent combination of dynamic performance and energy efficiency. In addition, mathematical equations have been proposed and experimentally validated, these equations may help the determination of the optimum diameters, even during the initial phases of the project. This work was part of an important LASHIP’s research line, which, since 2009, seeks to develop a method for designing pneumatic actuation systems for optimum operating conditions.
