Abstract: With the technological progress, it is natural and inevitable that different areas of knowledge put together their positive characteristics and merge interests to reach common goals, since the volume and complexity of challenges increase by the same proportion. This is specially true for the Theory of Information, Electronics and Mechanics, by means of Mechatronics, that use these assumptions to develop Products and Systems. However, in order to reach harmonic and synergic integration, it is essential to clearly establish the borders between these multi-technology universes. Project strategies using methods and languages that can be understood by professionals with different profiles are mandatory to allow an easier interaction. From this point of view, the contribution of this work is to systematize the activities of industrial automation projects in the Conceptual phase, documenting each of these activities with diagrams known to the industry environment, such as Grafcet, and others which are familiar to the academic area, e.g. Petri C/A Networks and Object-Oriented programming with UML. By means of a group of diagrams – built using a commercial software tool (VISIO) – it is possible to map decisions taken from the Project Conception to the Detailed Project phase, in order to fast and accurately foresee consequences and impacts related to such choices, reviewing them and making changes, if required. To prove the applicability and efficiency of the systemization, the automation project for a Hydraulic Power Plant had been modeled from the structural and physical parts and the interconnection between its subsystems. And, for the behavioral part, a software program to command part of the plant operation was developed. Thus, the systemization allows to replace the documentation made up of photographic records, general technical specifications, specific schematics and professionals’ heuristics, with a scientific documentation, which takes into account the different profiles of those involved and their particular contributions.
