In the 16th of March 2018, the Ph.D. student, Henri C. Belan, presented his doctoral thesis in Florianópolis, SC. The research title is DIGITAL HYDRAULIC ACTUATION SYSTEMS FOR AIRCRAFTS WITH FOCUS ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY. The work was conduct in collaboration with the Linköping University, in Sweden, where the researcher performed a sandwich program in partnership with SAAB AB. The author presented the characteristics of the new concept of Digital Hydraulic Actuator – DHA. This work focused on searching for more efficient hydraulic systems solutions for aircraft, through the application of digital hydraulics concepts. For this purpose, a concept has been selected which involves the replacement of servo valves by a set of on/off valves associated with the use of multichamber actuators and multiple pressure lines. The result is a new configuration (DHA), more energy efficient and able to meet the requirements of position pursuit dynamics and disturbance rejection.
