On June 19th in Florianópolis – SC, the mechanical engineer Ivan Junior Mantovani presented his master’s thesis titled “Optimization of switching between on/off valves in Digital Hydraulic Actuators”. The center theme of the thesis was Digital Hydraulics, which is currently in international academic researches on hydraulics. The work focused on development of a solution to optimization of the switching times of ON/OFF valves in digital hydraulic systems employing secondary control with multi-chamber cylinders.

The master’s thesis is related to a research and development project – R&D called “Digital hydraulic actuator for flight control: Innovative solution for high energy efficiency, reliability and safety”. The project is part of an international cooperation agreement composed by Laboratory of Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems – LASHIP and CERTI Foundation from the Federal University of Santa Catarina – UFSC, Fluid and Mechatronic Systems – FLUMES from Linköping University – LiU and Saab AB company, the last two based in Sweden. Therefore, this master’s thesis contributed to the R&D project, which will promote the development of an innovative system to aircrafts through an academy-industry partnership in the aerospace and defense areas between Brazil and Sweden countries.
